Teaching Zone

Background Information

Part 1. Rational of the website

Using IT learning resources to facilitate learning and teaching becomes a new trend in the development of international education. The design of this website targets the learning difficulties encountered by the junior secondary students when learning English Language. It is hoped that students can gain new insights through revising the old knowledge in the teaching zone of the website. When they are using the game zone, we want to enhance the students’ interest in learning English. Finally, it is hoped that students’ knowledge can be consolidated through the exercise zone. Students can use the website whenever and wherever they want to learn English, which can promote student’s independent learning.

Part 2. Content of the website

This website is divided into three different learning zones, including the teaching zone, game zone and exercise zone. First, the teaching zone creates a self-learning environment for students to learn about the features of different text types, language and grammar skills.

The game zone provides mini-games to enable students to learn through games. Students can strengthen the skills of forming sentences with the correct tenses, identifying modal verbs, using conditional sentences and forming adjective patterns through playing the mini-games.

For the exercise zone, it provides exercises on the text types ‘Letter/Email of advice’ and ’Feature article’. Each text type has two types of exercises (content and structure) and three levels in which students should accomplish their learning tasks accordingly. Regarding content exercise, it aims to elevate the students’ logical skills and ability to identify the gist of each paragraph and passage. As for structure exercise, it aims to consolidate the students’ knowledge on the structure of each text type and their understanding of the logical bridge connecting each paragraph.

Part 3. Learning objectives

By completing the learning tasks on the website, students should be able to apply the knowledge of the English language and writing techniques to their own writing and construct coherent and content-rich writing.
